Therapists for college students near San Francisco State University
Luceli Salazar
I became a clinical counselor because I believe healing begins when someone feels authentically heard. Life can be incredibly loud, leaving us feeling disconnected from what matters the most. I provide a quiet, attentive space dedicated to your voice and your experiences. Whether you’re facing uncertainty or deep challenges, my goal is to ensure you feel fully understood and supported during life transitions. I believe the therapeutic relationship is important and I foster transparency in my work. I seek to have genuine curiosity to collaborate in having clients identify connections in thought process, emotions, and behaviors. This process is your journey, and you are the expert on your own life. I follow your lead, respecting the pace that feels right for you. This collaborative approach ensures that our work together is grounded in safety, dignity, and a shared sense of purpose. If it rains during our session, I might look out a window for a second because that ‘rain smell’ is my favorite.
AP Vo Counseling
I help college and graduate students navigate relationships, family expectations, identity, academic and career stress, and major life transitions. My approach is relational, culturally responsive, and grounded in helping you better understand yourself and your patterns so you can feel more connected, confident, and clear about what comes next. As a bilingual and bicultural therapist with a background in both mental health and law, I understand that the challenges students face often involve more than one part of their lives. I provide a supportive space to work through relationships, belonging, cultural or family pressures, uncertainty, and change.
Lavender Mood Family Counseling

Learning to improve safe coping skills can help one to release stress and anxiety and better deal with life circumstances in a more positive way. Releasing hurt and pain is a healing process and promotes growth which can improve relationships and overall life satisfaction. The 1st step to healing is building a therapeutic relationship where one feels accepted & can feel safe being honest. I have specialized training in crisis counseling, CBT and solution focused therapy in a variety of settings over the past 16 years. I can assist you in improving your anxiety and depression by helping you increase safe coping skills. Please feel free to call or email me to determine if I am accepting new clients. I enjoy helping young adults learn more about who they are and what they want out of this life. Setting boundaries, developing more positive self-talk, problem-solving, improving communication skills, and being authentic are all important factors to feeling like your best self. I tend to have more of a conversational, laid-back style and believe a sense of humor and some foul language in sessions can be incredibly therapeutic! I strongly believe that the therapist-client relationship is the number one reason for success in a therapeutic relationship, so it is important to me that you feel like we are the right fit. I'm a therapist with Octave and Evernorth Behavioral Care Group. Octave is a mental health practice providing high-quality care covered by multiple insurances. Evernorth Behavioral Care Group is a behavioral health provider group in-network with Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth. For my availability, please reach out to Octave’s team by emailing or calling.
Lemon-Aid Counseling
Telehealth in CA Do you know who you are, what you need, where you want to go in life, how to get there? Does it seem like others have their sh*t together while you sometimes can't figure out what you are doing? How do you make choices and decisions if you don't know which way to turn? How do you create healthy relationships if you didn't have the best role models at home? How can you calm your worry and anxiety about school, life, and your future? Do you have any physical or medical problems interfering with your life? Has life dumped a truckload of lemons on your doorstep? We don't always choose our circumstances, but we still have to figure out how to deal with them. It helps to have a non-judgmental, supportive person to help you sort through these big life issues. Call me to see if I might be that person for you. While I am white and cis gender, I have clients and family members from a range of personal identities. My schedule varies, so we'd need to see what fits for virtual sessions.
SLO Couples Therapy
You want to feel like a team again. But lately, it’s been harder to talk without tension or connect without effort. Under the surface, something’s missing: trust that your relationship is solid, the comfort of being understood and appreciated, or the closeness that makes you feel like you’re truly in it together. Couples counseling helps you shift out of reactive cycles and into meaningful connection. You’ll learn to communicate with care, listen with empathy, and build a foundation that is steady and supportive so your relationship feels like home again. I see couples in person in San Luis Obispo and online across California, Washington, Florida, and South Carolina.
Cathryn Waters
I take a dynamic approach, helping others through developing the courage and confidence to build new skills, change unhelpful views of the self, and increasing insight and understanding and acceptance of where you are, while working toward where you want to be. The more open and willing you are to share, the better we can work together to come to a shared plan, view of the problem and work toward more distress tolerance. I use practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, validation, insight, socratic questioning, breathing exercises, exposure therapy, mindfulness, and shame resilience to helping others overcome cognitive and emotional obstacles toward improving the view of the self or creating behavioral change. I am a therapist at Octave, a behavioral health practice creating a new standard for mental health care that’s both high-quality and accessible. Thrive With Hope Therapy Services
Tired of feeling so tired? Ya I get it. I'm not like other therapists, I'm a cool therapist. Many of the people I work with are navigating grief and loss, school, work and life stress, and relationship challenges that can leave them feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of what comes next. Maybe your loved one died and you’re trying to figure out how to move forward, your boyfriend or girlfriend broke up with you and you’re struggling with the loss of the relationship, or someone you love is no longer part of your life in the way they once were. You may be adjusting to a major life change, caring for a loved one, experiencing a breakup or relationship conflict, or trying to cope with a loss that others may not fully understand. In addition, I work with individuals managing stress related to chronic illness, and autoimmune diseases. I also work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, self-criticism, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, and difficulty setting boundaries. You might be stretched thin at work and home, feeling like you’re constantly taking care of everyone else, questioning whether you’re on the right career path, or struggling to balance your responsibilities with your own needs. Together, we can work through what you’re carrying, make sense of what has changed, and create space for greater clarity, confidence, connection, and a sense of purpose. Don't know if the glass slipper fits yet? That's fine, text me and we can do a quick and FREE consult call and you can ask me any questions you may have

Sam Naimi, psychoanalyst, LCSW
I help people understand themselves with profound depth, not just with symptom management. If you're ready to look at patterns, relationships, and what keeps you stuck, this work is for you. Can you dream of a life no longer haunted by your past? Are you feeling limited in your relationships? Contemporary psychoanalysis offers a unique space to understand not only what has happened to you, but how your history continues to shape your inner world, often outside of conscious awareness. I help people understand themselves with profound depth; not just with symptom management. If you're ready to look at patterns, relationships, and what keeps you painfully stuck, this work is for you. Therapy is an emancipatory undertaking: the aim is not to help you become better adjusted to what has constrained you, but to help you become less beholden to it in the long run. I bring warmth, candor, and sustained attention to the room. My specialties include contemporary dream interpretation; dissociation; depression; and trauma, in all its forms.

Kathleen Pederson
I was inspired to become a therapist as a young child, with the value of wanting to help others. Early in my career I had many mentors who encouraged me to become a therapist, they believed in me. In some moment, I realized I wanted to help people believe in themselves and to see their own possibilities. Validation is one of the most important tools I value as a therapist and as a person. I use the phrase, validate the other person’s reality that may be different from your own. I teach clients to self validate, to know what you experienced is true and real. I value the process of creating this safe space where one can see themselves just as they are. I ask for feedback to see if how I respond through validation fits for the client, if they felt heard and validated. My first response is over time. I think trust is built with consistency. I tend to follow a consistent pattern in session, I try to have a beginning, middle and end to every session. The beginning can be more of a welcoming and social experience. The middle can be sharing and revealing the deeper part of a person and what they are going through. This can feel emotional and intense at times. The end, is closure. I will help a client have some closure at the end of every session. I talk to the client about next steps, how will you spend the time after the session, and confirm when we will meet next.

I work with students who feel overwhelmed, anxious, burned out, or like they’re barely keeping up even if they’re still functioning on the outside. You may be juggling school, work, relationships, family pressure, and big life transitions, while internally feeling exhausted, stuck, or constantly behind. Many students I work with are high-achieving on the outside but struggling privately with anxiety, depression, overthinking, procrastination, self-doubt, or feeling disconnected from themselves. Others are navigating relationship stress, identity questions, or the lingering impact of past experiences that still affect how they show up in daily life. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to hold it all together or figure it out alone. Together we slow things down, understand what’s underneath the stress, and start building clarity, steadiness, and emotional relief in a way that actually feels manageable in student life. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in both emotional insight and practical tools to help you feel more regulated, confident, and connected to yourself.
